Course Purpose & Intended Learning Outcomes – Adult Courses

Purpose

The purpose of our adult courses is to provide adult learners with a comprehensive and flexible environment to improve their English language skills. By following a structured syllabus based on the CEFR scale, the course aims to help participants achieve measurable progress in their language proficiency, catering to various personal and professional goals. While our primary goal is to enhance our students’ ability to communicate effectively in English, we are also focused on equipping learners with language skills needed for the workplace, university programmes and social integration.   Adults can tailor their programme to add extra one to one tuition, allowing them to increase the intensity of their programme. Adults can also attend our adult social and activity programmes, adding an intercultural and sightseeing element to their experience. Additionally, the programme offers the option to stay with local hosts, providing authentic opportunities to practice English and experience cultural immersion, enhancing their overall understanding and appreciation of the language in real-world contexts.

Intended Learning Outcomes

The intended learning outcomes of our adult English language course are to ensure that learners achieve a comprehensive and practical command of the language, facilitating effective communication in a variety of contexts. By the end of the course, learners should be able to demonstrate improved proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, tailored to their specific CEFR level. They will be equipped to understand and engage in everyday conversations, express their thoughts and ideas clearly, and comprehend written texts of varying complexity. Additionally, learners will develop the ability to write coherent and structured texts, including emails, reports, and essays, appropriate to their level of proficiency.

Beyond linguistic skills, the course aims to enhance learners’ cultural competence and their ability to navigate social and professional settings in English-speaking environments. Learners will gain insights into cultural norms, idiomatic expressions, and context-specific language usage, which will enable them to interact more effectively and confidently. The course also seeks to boost learners’ employability by providing them with vocabulary and communication skills, thereby opening up greater career opportunities. Overall, the course aspires to empower learners to achieve their personal, professional, and academic goals through a solid foundation in English language proficiency and cultural understanding.
